If the uncertain nature of upcoming engine-related rules has left you with regulatory whiplash — you’re not alone. Recent changes in federal administration have up-ended many of what were once considered certain pathways to model year 2027 and beyond emissions regulations, leaving fleet managers wondering what the future will hold for their next generation equipment.
In some cases, proposed rules were rolled back. In others, proposed rules were kept in place. In response, some engine/vehicle manufacturers are making a minimal change approach to compliance, while others are making more of a major overhaul to current engine offerings. Navigating this regulatory landscape can be quite challenging.
Fear not, however. The Technology & Maintenance Council’s (TMC) S.3 Engine & Motor Study Group will shed light on what you can expect from the 2027 and beyond models. During this session, expert panelists from the various original equipment engine/truck manufacturers will present their specific strategies for complying with the latest rules. We’ll address fuel efficiency gains that are expected to come from the latest innovations, as well as extended oil drain opportunities, aftertreatment design complexity, and other issues which can directly impact shop resources and asset availability.
