The Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) provides a single, concise coding convention to manage fleets’ assets and analyze maintenance operation costs. But if you think VMRS is just a nine-digit number for identifying parts — think again.

There’s so much more to VMRS, and fully understanding its purpose and promise will result in much more effective management of equipment parts and labor activities. Curated by the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC), VMRS provides the discipline necessary for different industry segments to communicate with each other.

VMRS is the shorthand of maintenance reporting, eliminating the need for extensive written communications with all the inherent problems of miscommunication normally associated with the written word. VMRS provides a vital communication link between maintenance personnel, computers, and management.  It establishes a “universal” language for fleets, original equipment manufacturers’ (OEMs), industry suppliers, computers, and the people whose responsibility it is to specify, purchase, operate, and maintain equipment.

During this session, panelists will provide examples of basic and advanced applications of how VMRS in used not only by fleets, but all across the industry, covering all areas of equipment specification, maintenance, repair and warranty. We’ll approach VMRS from the fleet, data specialist, service provider, manufacturer, and software vendor perspectives, discussing how VMRS helps benchmark key performance indicators and returns on investment in warranty tracking and recovery, parts management and more.

When it comes to fleet management — if you’re not using VMRS, you’re just another person with an opinion.
