Managing vehicles with increasingly sophisticated levels of automation comes with its own unique set of challenges. As commercial vehicles progress from SAE Level 2 and 3 to Level 4 and 5 degrees of automation, fleet managers are having to reassess their maintenance management programs to meet the needs and conditions associated with potentially driverless trucks.
In preparation for rising levels of automation, the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) — through its S.18 Automated Vehicles Study Group — is tackling a host of issues pertaining to the management of automated vehicles. These task forces are addressing system specification and selection, trailer specifications, total cost of ownership determination, cybersecurity concerns, as well as vehicle inspection and enforcement issues.
During this session, panelists will include representatives from fleets, telematics providers, and vehicle/system manufacturers who will discuss the real-world implications of operating automated vehicles on the road. We’ll cover the latest recommendations for each of these areas as well as discuss how such decisions may impact a fleet’s safety record and liability.
